SAFP year-end fundraising appeal

From Poverty to Possibility

Save A Family Plan has launched the annual appeal, asking friends and supporters to help raise the vital funding needed for Community Development Projects for impoverished families and communities in India.

In addition to our Family Development Program, which works directly with families, Save A Family Plan’s Community Development Programs address conditions related to poverty, on a larger scale.  There are many projects, large and small, that are planned for Fiscal Year 2024-25 and we need your help to that ensure they are funded.

We hope that one of them will touch your heart and inspire you to pledge your financial support.

Two of our newest programs focus on education for children in poverty.  Education provides basic literacy and numeracy, important life skills, and long-term possibility: for child social development, for self-confidence, and hope for pursuing learning and some day earning a living wage.

Program Spotlight: our programs in four rural villages provide evening classes for 100 children. Students receive study materials, personalized academic tutoring, and information about health, hygiene and nutrition.  Parental involvement and trained educators ensure that each child gains from education, good study habits, and skills that hold great promise for a brighter future filled with possibility.  Save A Family Plan will also offer scholarships to 400 students so they can take courses that assist them in securing a career and good employment.

Please consider financially supporting these and other incredible programs that help break the cycles of poverty and move lives from poverty to possibility!

Our Community Development Programs for the upcoming fiscal year

(April 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025):

Sanitary Toilets:  Household toilets and running water improve health and hygiene by reducing water-borne diseases and eliminating open defecation.  They also provide privacy and safety, especially for women and children.  Our goal is to construct 400 toilets at a cost of $550 each.

Children’s Education Project:  This new education project supports impoverished children by offering non-formal, remedial education.  Young students attend evening classes with skilled tutors who give assessments, training, and individualized attention.  We aim to operate six training centres, with 30 children at each.  The cost per child is $67 per year.

Home Construction:  This ongoing housing program addresses the dire need for safe housing for poor and marginalized families in rural India.  We are working with local families, builders, and governments to help families to construct a home, which, besides shelter, offers cooking and sleeping spaces, basic sanitation, and clean water.  Our goal is 30 new homes in the coming fiscal year, contributing around  $6,750 per house.

Clean Water:  Working in India at the grass-roots level, Save A Family Plan field staff will distribute non-electric water filters, provide training, and educate about sanitation, health and safe hygiene practices.  The cost per filtration unit is $60.  Our goal is to provide 1,000 filters in the new fiscal year.

Women’s Empowerment Project:  This project focuses on women-led economic development through high-skills training in advanced tailoring and entrepreneurship.  At the end of the five-month program, each graduate is gifted with her own industrial-grade sewing machine, with which to start her own sewing and tailoring businesses, resulting in a stable income, dignity, and self-reliance.  Our goal is to enroll 60 women at a cost of $500 per person.
