“The Lit Gala is proud to announce Save a Family Plan as its official charity partner for this year’s event. Known for celebrating literature, creativity, and community, the Lit Gala has selected Save a Family Plan in recognition of the organization’s vital work supporting impoverished Indian families and helping them achieve long‑term stability and self‑sufficiency. Through this partnership, the Lit Gala aims to amplify awareness of Save a Family Plan’s mission and to help families in need break the cycle of poverty. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to compassion, empowerment, and the belief that strong families build stronger communities.”
The Lit Gala will be leveraging both of SAFP’s Family Development and Community Development Programs to create a philanthropy program with a focus on creating sustainability for families through empowerment and housing-related projects:
- Family Development – Families will gain the skills required to start a small business and earn a sustainable income to become financially independent and provide a better future for their children. Field staff will introduce them to local resources and help them to engage with their local community.
- Building Sustainable Homes – Safe and sustainable housing provides the foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty, offering individuals the shelter, safety and stability needed to pursue education, employment, and a healthy lifestyle.
- Building Toilets – Toilets will be built within a home’s compound safeguarding the family against the dangers of having to venture out far from home to access facilities. Families are also educated in safe sanitation practices that can save lives through simple hygiene techniques.
- Solar Panels for Homes – Rooftop solar power systems for homes create access to electricity inside houses so that parents can work from home and children can study. Exterior lighting provides safety for the whole family.
- Biogas – Biogas provides clean burning fuel for year-round cooking energy offering a much safer option than open fires within the home which causes health and safety risks.
