The SAFP Msgr. Kandathil Social Justice Award 2026

In 2025, our 60th anniversary year, we were proud to announce the Save A Family Plan Msgr. Kandathil Social Justice Award.  The recipient of this award would be recognized for their extraordinary commitment to the social justice spirit of our founder, Msgr. Augustine “Father Gus” Kandathil.  The nominees would be selected according to their contribution toward sustainable development, in partnership with Save A Family Plan, demonstrating love and compassion for those living in extreme poverty in India.

Congratulations to SAFP volunteer Greg De Souza, who has been presented with the 2026 award.

From Greg:

“I was filled with joy as I filmed a community of tribal women leading a circle dance with members of Save a Family Plan. I remember the gratitude of a young women looking forward to a home that would protect her family from elephants, and a tiger. (Yes, elephants and tigers were a threat in the forest where they lived.) Rope making, fish vending, tailoring, and animal rearing are just few examples of the work people engaged in to raise themselves out of poverty. The benefits and progress made with the support of SAFP where evident in every interview.

“I thank SAFP for the Monseigneur Augustine Kandathil Social Justice Award but this award belongs to all members of SAFP India and Canada who serve the poor.  Indian coordinators travel to remote places to offer guidance, the office staff assess projects and keep SAFP accountable, and the donors give. We are made for service. It was entirely my honour to serve by videotaping and editing.”

If you know someone who should be recognized in the future, please write care of the Executive Director, either by mail (1040 Waterloo Street, Suite 307, London, Ontario, N6A-3Y1) or email (info@safp.org, subject line: Social Justice Award).
